If you appreciate the beauty of Fauquier County and you want to enjoy it rambling down a country path in the great outdoors, or just value the pleasure that an asset like walking trails can bring to a community, or want a way to walk to the store, or the pharmacy, or church, then get involved. Only the actions of interested people will bring these paths into existence. They are several ways to help.
Come to a meeting!
Come live the excitement!
We meet on the second Thursday of every month at 7:00pm at the Warrenton Community Center (next to Taylor Middle School). Getting a trail built takes time and money. There are copious and byzantine requirements and restrictions. People can be afraid of trails near their house and there are always other uses for the money. The more people that want walking to be part of the future of Fauquier, the more likely city and county planners will listen and prioritize pedestrian features. Simply put, the more people show up, the more we can accomplish.
Next meeting is Thursday, October 11th at 7 PM. We will be meeting at the trail connector between PB Smith/Whipoorwill and Jamison Farms. Click here for location.
The FTC promotes trail use through community outreach and education. Some of our activities include manning booths at First Friday, educational and social activities, talks at community clubs, and coordinating events with other walking and naturalist clubs. We investigate possible trail routes and right of ways and speak with engineers, supervisors, politicians, developers, home owners and HOAs.
