Summary:Bull Run Natural Area is an 800 acre preserve clinging to the side of the Bull Run Mountains where they are split by Thoroughfare Gap and I66. There are multiple trail routes through the woods and, although the popular overlook at High Point Cliff area is currently closed, there is plenty of interest in the colossal ruin of the haunted 1742 Beverly Mill, the Chapman house and graveyard, and echoes of the civil war skirmishes where Union and Confederate soldiers chased each other up and down the ridges, maneuvering for advantage. It can get muddy and this is definitely not a flat ramble.
